A wedding in my region.
As a destination wedding photographer, I am more than ever convinced that Umbria, the green heart of Italy, right in the centre of it, has nothing to envy the rest of my Country in terms of beauty and charm.
Paola and Robert, from Ireland, chose to get married in Umbria, namely in the beautiful Villa Taticchi in Ponte Pattoli, near Perugia, which they booked for exclusive use.
We had met for the pre-wedding photoshoot three months earlier, on a grey afternoon in May. It had probably been the grayest week of the entire Spring of 2023. Paola and Robert were in Italy for their friend Francesca's wedding and we took the opportunity to spend two hours at the Frontone Gardens in Perugia and shoot some photos of the two of them together.
We were hoping for a little more sun for their forthcoming wedding in July, and we were satisfied...
In fact, for their wedding they chose what was probably the hottest and sunniest Saturday of the year.
A wedding photographer certainly cannot control the weather, be it sun, wind, rain, and I often happen to work in the open air when there are one undred degrees in the shade, but this does not discourage me.
My job is to take memorable photos, regardless of the weather conditions. and maybe equip myself with a bottle of fresh water and a fan to use every now and then :)
Believe me, it was very very hot on Paola and Robert's wedding day.
Yes, it was a hot, sunny afternoon, full of emotions, spent with family and close friends, with a touching outdoor ceremony, celebrated in Italian and English, in a shady clearing of the beautiful park of the Villa.
The park was also the setting for the couple's photoshoot (and for the three of them, as they have a lovely young boy) dedicated to the newlyweds after the ceremony, while the guests cooled down with aperitifs under the trees. After that, dinner under the patio, dancing, cutting the cake and relaxation in the Villa's garden pub.
The internal staircase of Villa Taticchi was also the stylish setting for Paola and Robert's first look.
It happens more and more often that the bride and groom decide to meet alone (with the photographer at their side) shortly before the ceremony, while all the guests are waiting for them by the altar, because they want this first encounter, when they are already dressed for the occasion, to remain indelible, to be immortalized by the photographer, but at the same time, there and then, they want it to be an intimate, private moment, for their eyes only.
Guests can wait...
As a wedding photographer, I always consider it a privilege to be allowed to photograph such an important and, obviously, unrepeatable moment.
